Tears and Laughter

Tears and laughter, laughter and tears... What comes first? Or can they come together? Aron and Feydeau, playwrights from two different periods, two differrent countries, expressing two different styles, are brought together here for the first time in this double bill, complete with musical accompaniament.

The Music Lovers

by Georges Feydeau

Set in the 1890s, in a salon in Paris, this lively play revolves around the idea of mistaken identity. Lucile is expecting the arrival of a new music teacher. What she doesn't know is that Gabrielle, the maid of Medemoiselle Dubarroy from downstairs, has diverted Edouard, a prospective suitor of Mademoiselle Dubarroy, to Lucile's apartment in the mistaken belief that he is attending a rendezvous with Mademoiselle Dubarroy. What ensues is a hilarious series of misunderstandings and unintentional double entendres between Lucile and Edouard, each believing the other to be someone else.
